Bhubaneswar: May 12: Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) today staged demonstrations in four districts of Odisha demanding price, prestige and pension for farmers’. Farmers’ went on to gherao the collector’s office in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal and Jajpur dictricts.
NKS coordinator said, ‘Government must facilitate adequate technical knowhow, seeds, fertilizers, loans and irrigation facilities besides taking care of the financial interests of the farmers’.
The farmers have long been demanding payment of compensation to the families of farmers that committed suicide, provision of Rs 5,000 pension for farmers, better procurement facilities, higher minimum support price, better social recognition, and drought compensation among others.
By and large, the agitation in all the districts remains peaceful.
