Puri, Apr 13: With the high summers rising day by day water shortage across Odisha also rises.
Taking about the Bhandarikuda village water project at Brahmagiri block, though half a decade has passed, but the project is still under process, rather incomplete. People from over 50 villages will be provided with drinking water once the project completes. But seems the villagers do have to wait more.
Being a coastal area, the water from the bore wells in the region have become unusable because of its high salinity while pond water is rather more and more affecting people with diseases.
Executive Engineer Chittaranjan Jena stated to media that it is a matter of concern now as it’s five years now. He added that the work had been given to an agency two years earlier but they could not complete the work in time. As of now, it’s been finalized to complete the work by Dec 2017 any how.
A resident of Gobardhanpur named Ajaya Bhoi stated to media that villagers of around 50 villages are deprived of pure drinking water. It is thereby a earnest request to State to initiate immediate action so that the basic necessity can be solved.
It may be noted that the Water Project in the above mentioned village began being constructed in 2011 and it was targeted to be completed in two years. The project having an estimated cost of Rs 17.50 cr was funded by NABARD. But its been five years now and the project is not even halfway done. While work of five overhead tanks is continuing, the work of another water treatment plant is yet to start.
