Kolkata, March 30: Indian football icon Bhaichung Bhutia, fighting on a Trinamool Congress ticket this Assembly polls in West Bengal, has declared assets worth over Rs 17 crore.
According to his affidavit filed before the Election Commission, Bhutia earned close to Rs 35 lakh in 2014-15 financial year.
The Sikkimese player is contesting from Siliguri city in north Bengal and taking on veteran Marxist leader Ashok Bhattacharya, also the mayor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
He owns movable assets worth over Rs 3.88 crore including an Audi car, jewellery, bank balance and investments.
He is also a shareholder in United Sikkim Football Club of Rs 6.22 lakh.
Bhutia’s immovable properties include several plots of inherited land in Sikkim and Kolkata valued over Rs 13.47 crore.
The former captain of Indian football team had in 2014 Lok Sabha polls unsuccessfully contested on a TMC ticket from Darjeeling.
