Both Bhaichung Bhutia and Kalyan Chaubey ran for AIFF President, but Kalyan Chaubey ultimately won. He is taking over as the head of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

On September 2, the vote took place in New Delhi. With his win, Chaubey is the first football player to become president of the AIFF in its 85-year history.

Out of the 36 state associations in India, 34 were allowed to vote in today’s elections, barring Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir.

Throughout the election, Kalyan Chaubey was the clear frontrunner. However, Bhaichung Bhutia’s stunning entry into the campaign created an unexpected turn.

Despite the loss, Bhutia expressed his gratitude to Kalyan and promised to continue advocating for Indian football.
