Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe Passes Away

Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe passed away on Friday.  The longest-serving Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot at while he was addressing an election rally in the city of Nara.
Abe, 67, immediately collapsed after being shot and was seen bleeding before he was taken to the hospital.

Police arrested 41-year-old Yamagami Tetsuya in Nara City for allegedly attempting murder.

Abe was transferred by medevac to Nara Medical University Hospital in Kashihara City in the prefecture. Police say Abe appears to have been shot from behind.

Abe is Japan’s longest-serving Prime Minister who served from 2006 to 2007 and again from 2012 to 2020. He stepped down in 2020 citing health reasons.
