Cuttack: former Sub-Collector of Nabarangpur Prasanta Kumar Rout, who was nabbed with cash over Rs.3.02 crore during DA searches carried out by Odisha Vigilance in June 2023, has been convicted in an earlier case of bribery during his posting as BDO Bisra in Sundargarh district.
The case relates to Sambalpur Vigilance PS Case No.65 dt.05.11.2018 U/s 7 PC (Amendment) Act,2018, in which Rout was arrested for demanding and taking bribe of Rs.1,00,000 from a complainant for giving administrative approval along with technical sanction of plan and estimate of 4 numbers of projects sanctioned under 4th SFC and 14th CFC.
Following his arrest in the DA Case in 2023, his earlier trap case was taken up on expeditious trial and was closely monitored by Odisha Vigilance.
Rout has been convicted in the case by Special Judge Vigilance Sundargarh and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 years and to pay fine of Rs.50,000.
Rout was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence. Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Rout.
