Bhubaneswar, June 4: On receiving an indication from the NDA government at the centre, the state government ensured that by 2019 every rural household will be provided with electric supply on a regular basis.
On reviewing the work of the Energy Department at the State Secretariat Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik asked to ensure the electrification of all villages by strengthening of the infrastructure, its distribution and transmission in order to meet the set target within the stipulated time period.
It has been notified that in the preceding year the govt. had provided current supply to over 12lakh families across 7,000 villages.
Reports also say that measures have been taken by the Odisha Hydro Power Corporation for setting up two or more than two power projects. Along with that a 15mega watt solar project has already begun operating at Manmunda in Boudh district.
After the completion of the review meeting by CM, Energy minister Pranab Prakash Das informed that the department is aiming to cover the remaining 25 lakh households in the coming three years.
Decision has been taken by the State government in collaboration with the Centre to establish electric supply to minimum 8 lakh households per year under Dean Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana.
With this belief, current will also be provided to around 500 unreachable villages under Biju Gram Jyoti Yojana through Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited.
Reports also say that about 15,000 inefficient transformers will be replaced by efficient ones in the succeeding four years.
The proposed plan to set up 450 new 33/11 KV Substations and Provision of 11KV feeder line especially for the agriculture and fishery sector were also discussed for implementation.
An official statement reports that the CM appreciated the Energy department for good management of electric supply in spite of a fall in the water level of the reservoirs.
CM also praised the rapid improvement in current transmission system that happened in Puri at the time of Nabakalebara.
Lastly among the rest, CM also took a note of the State Capital Region Improvement in Power System Scheme which targets to establish stable and uninterrupted power supply in and around the twin cities of Odisha.
