Cuttack, Aug 30: Three students of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Bhubaneswar, identified as Srusti Pal, Sandeep Kumar and Pritam Priyadarshi drowned in the Mahanadi River at Gadagadia Ghat on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday afternoon.
As per reports, the students who had gone to the Gadagadia Ghat on Tuesday morning, slipped into the deep waters of the river while taking bath. Even though few locals at the spot tried to rescue them, the students were by then engulfed by the strong current.
After receiving the information, Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and fished out the bodies of the three students after an hour long search operation. Two students who were taken to the SCB Medical College and Hospital were declared as dead on arrival by the doctors, while one student was already dead when the fire personnel had fished the body out.
