Germany has extended support to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts for development and economic growth in the country.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel told reporters after a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan after her arrival here on Monday that she honours that Modi has ambitious programmes for the development of the country and for the economic build up.
Germany is fully interested to be India’s partner and supporter, Merkel said and added Germany will extend cooperation in areas such as economy, agriculture, internal security, development issues, defence matters and financial relations.
She said Germany and India will cooperate in international conferences and meetings such as the upcoming Conference of Parties (COP21) in Paris.
Merkel and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks on stepping up bilateral cooperation in a range of key areas with a special emphasis on ramping up trade and investment when global slowdown is emerging as a major concern.
Merkel, accompanied by a large delegation of Cabinet Ministers and top officials, arrived here last night and was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan this morning.
Ways to deepen bilateral engagement in diverse sectors like defence, security, education and renewable energy figured in the summit-level Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC) between Modi and Merkel which also deliberated on issues relating to trade and investment.
