Cuttack, Mar 12: Identified as Md Gaffur alias Sonu Mallick, a 25-year-old youth has been arrested by the Odisha Commissionerate police for making fraud ATM transactions in the city. The accused by yet has managed to loot about Rs 1.7 lakh from at least 4 ATMs in the city in the last two months. He has also been involved with such frauds in Ghaziabad and Delhi, while no reports have been filed in his name.

Notably, Gaffur aka Sonu used tricks to the banks by a system called ATM Power Interruption Fraud. He used to enter the PIN number and enter the amount for withdrawal, and once the machine starts dispensing cash he break the power supply of the ATM machine.

Earlier Gaffur used to work with a security organisation which dealt with refilling of cash in ATMs in Ghaziabad. And so he was aware of the technicalities of the operation of an ATM machine. After the company he was working for shutdown operations, Gaffur was jobless and did not get any alternative job, and soon he was under debt. And thus he chose the wrong path.
