Government to open Odia Open University soon

Bhubaneswar Dec 18 : Odisha Government will establish Odia Open University in order to promote Odia language and literature in the state.

In this regard, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday directed the Higher Education Department during an inter ministerial committee meeting held at the state secretariat here

Chief Minister too asked all departments to issue letters and directives in Odia and write nameplates and advertisements in the language henceforth.

It was also decided that the State Government would provision scholarships for students to pursue higher education and researches in Odia language.

School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra said Odia chairs will be opened in top educational institutions including Delhi University and Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The Minister said all Government advertisements, celebrations, seminars, workshops, training programmes, inauguration plaques and invitation cards will be in Odia.

The Minister also said every year in April, Odia language week will be celebrated. Debate competitions will be organised in high schools, colleges and universities in the name of eminent Odia litterateurs. Successful students will be felicitated during the Odia language week celebrations, he added.
