Govt has preventive measures in place to curb road mishaps: Majhi

Bhubaneswar, Jan 17: In view of growing number of road accidents across the State, preventive measures are being taken for identifying ‘black spots’, said Commerce and Transport Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi.

Speaking at the concluding day of 27th National Road Safety Week here today, Majhi said National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and PWD have been instructed to identify ‘black spots’ to prevent road mishaps. 

 

The Minister said road transport system and condition of roads have considerably improved across the State. ‘But, road accidents too have risen”, Majhi said, adding initiatives are being taken by the transport department to prevent road mishaps through various schemes and awareness programmes. 

Stressing the need for massive public awareness, Majhi urged various voluntary organisations, driver associations, truck and bus owners associations and auto rickshaw driver associations to actively co-operate with the police and transport department to address the issue of rise in road mishaps.
