Bhubaneswar, February 1: A school headmaster and an assistant block education officer (ABEO) have been arrested by anti-corrpution vigilance sleuths in Odisha’s Bolangir district for allegedly taking Rs 11,000 bribe from a man to select him as a caretaker.
The two, identified as Bira Panda, Headmaster of Project Upper Primary School at Kurlubhata and Subash Nayak,
ABEO of Bangomunda Block, were arrested yesterday while accepting bribe of Rs 3,000 and Rs 8,000 respectively from complainant Tikeram Bhoi, a vigilance release said.
Complainant Bhoi alleged that he had applied for the post of caretaker of children of migrant labourers of the village and requested the accused persons for re-selection as caretaker. Panda and Nayak demanded Rs.3,000 and Rs 8,000 respectively as illegal gratification for his appointment.
Finding no other alternative he reported to Vigilance.
A trap was laid on Saturday in the office of the ABEO and both the accused were caught red handed by Vigilance Officer while demanding and accepting the bribe money, the release added.
