Bhubaneswar, April 12: The blistering heat wave that has triggered panic, continued to scorch the State capital on Tuesday though the temperature came down by three degrees from Monday’s 45.8 degree Celsius.
The city recorded a temperature of 42.9 degree Celsius in the day by 2 pm, said the local office of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
But though the temperature might not increase further, it would hover over 40 degree Celsius for another week, said IMD director Sarat Sahu.
When asked if there is any chance of thunder storms or rain which would have brought respite from the torrid heat, Sahu said till now the report said there is no chance of any thunder squall or rain till now. Sahu said on Tuesday due to a wind flow from Andhra Pradesh the temperature did not rise like Monday.
The heat wave has hit normal life hard and after 12 pm the bustling streets are wearing a deserted look. Most of the people are preferring to remain indoors but those who have to venture out are having a torrid time. But the worst part is the unannounced power cuts in different parts of the city is making the heat unbearable for the residents, said sources.
