Bhubaneswar, Jan 25: As part of High alert sounded by the Centre across the country, Odisha police has asked the force to remain alert during the Republic Day celebration to thwart any untoward incident caused by terrorists.
“A high alert has been sounded across Odisha ahead of the Republic Day celebrations,” Director General of Police (DGP) K.B. Singh said on Sunday.
He said a four-tier security arrangements has been put in place in the state capital for the celebrations In view of a security threat information received from intelligence bureau and other security agencies.
All district collectors and superintendents of police have been asked to stay alert during the Republic Day celebrations, Singh said after inspecting a full-dress rehearsal at the Mahatma Gandhi Marg here.
He said extra security measures have been taken for Maoist-affected districts of the state.
Security around the Biju Patnaik International Airport here has also been tightened while passengers have been asked by airlines to report atleast two hours for check-in.
Vehicles entering the airport are checked thoroughly by security men posted around the airport and people have been advised to report immediately if they sighted any suspicious object.
Security in Holy town Puri has also been intensified as intelligence reports apprehend terror strike, sources said.
