Bhubaneswar: May 09: BJP’s senior leader Himanta Biswa Sarma was elected as the leader of the newly elected MLAs of the Party and will be the 15th Chief Minister of Assam on Monday.
BJP shall form the Ministry in Assam for a second consecutive term. In the 126-member Assembly, the BJP won 60 seats and its alliance partners Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) got nine seats & new ally United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) secured six.
As said, Sarma was instrumental in the BJP’s victory both in the recently-held Assembly elections and in the 2016 polls in Assam. He was elected the leader of the BJP legislature party at a meeting held today in presence of outgoing Chief Minister Sarbananada Sonowal and Party’s Central Observers.
