Burla, Aug 30: The Hirakud dam chief engineer Harmohan Pradhan on Tuesday informed that as per the report received by the Central Soil and Material Research Station (CSMRS) on August 22, the Hirakud dam’s left spillway has developed cracks at six places. Dripping method would be used to fix the cracks. However, he further informed that the left spillway and the power dam are now out of danger as per the report of the underwater survey that was carried out recently.

Meanwhile, the report on the right spillway’s condition of the Hirakud dam is yet to be received.

The underwater survey was carried out through a remote operated vehicle (ROV) with a state-of-the-art underwater camera. The camera changes its direction in the water and takes underwater photos of the upstream face of the dam, including the sluice barrel, after it receives instructions from the control room which is inside a vehicle placed on the top of the dam.

The report would be submitted to the Odisha Water Resources department by the survey team.
