Hospitality Industry has immense prospects: Experts

Bhubaneswar, Aug 19: Students eager to make a mark in the hospitality and tourism industry were welcomed at the SOA University on Thursday with experts urging them to work hard to find their feet in a profession with immense prospects often described as glamorous.

The 3-day orientation program was held for students who have taken admission in different courses including Master in Hospitality Management (MHM), Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT) and Certificate course in Food Production and Patisserie this academic session in the School of Hotel Management (SHM), the university’s faculty of hospitality and tourism management.

The chief guest of the program, Mr. Abhignan Talukdar, Vice-President of the Crown Hotel in Bhubaneswar, narrated his personal experiences while urging the students to have passion for the profession they had chosen to succeed.

He advised the students to inculcate the right attitude which was crucial for their future.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Amit Banerjee said that the university was taking all steps to ensure that the students were given quality education and became responsible citizens. “If you are committed to your work, success will follow you. You don’t have to pursue success,” he said.

Prof. Anup Samantaray, Dean of the Institute of Business and Computer Studies (IBCS), faculty of management, and Prof. Sankarshan Nanda, Dean, Students’ Welfare, also addressed the students.

The Dean of SHM, Dr. Sitikantha Mishra, spoke about the possibilities in the world of hospitality industry and urged them to work hard to hone their skills and increase their confidence.

Prof. Sasmita Mohanty, faculty in SHM, conducted the program while another faculty member Prof. Akshyay Kumar Samal proposed the vote of thanks.
