Human Rights panel asks DIG to probe police firing in Kalahandi

Bhubaneswar, Nov 17: Odisha Human Rights Commission has directed the Deputy Inspector General of Police of South Western Range to probe the death of three persons allegedly in firing by security personnel during an operation to mop up Maoists in western Odisha Kalahandi district on Sunday.

     The OHRC gave this direction after admitting a petition from human rights activists.

The DIG has been directed to submit a report within four weeks.

Notably, three villagers including a ward member were killed and two minor boys injured allegedly caught in a cross-fire between security forces and Maoists in the Karlapat forest of the district.
