Bhubaneswar, Oct 27: The hunger strike that was launched by the All-Odisha Jail Employees Association (AOJEA) demanding a hike in grade pay was put on hold following an assurance by Arun Kumar Ray, Additional Director General (Prisons) to resolve their issues within a month. This was informed to the media persons by the Association’s President, Tamimur Rehman on Wednesday.

Notably, on October 24 the protest was launched ahead of 92 jails across the state and as many as 1,800 jail employees participated in the stir. Arun Kumar Ray had met the association on Tuesday and assured them that the steps will be taken in December to fulfill their demands.

Elaborately he had said that the association’s proposal has been forwarded to the Home department which has sent the proposal to the Finance department. Certain clarifications have been sought on technical grounds. The proposal will be forwarded once again to the State government and he would apprise the Chief Secretary and the Home Secretary about their demands.

After the meeting, Tamimur Rehman had informed the media that the Association would take a call on the strike after having discussion with the members on the matter.
