IIIT, Bhubaneswar achieves 91% Placement of the Pass Outs

IIIT Team of Students ranked Top in Google Challenge

Bhubaneswar: August 6: As substantiation to its credibility, International Institute of Information Technology, Bhubaneswar, established by Government of Odisha in the year 2006, has achieved 91% placements of its pass outs in the year 2019-20. The Institute has maintained a high placement record of 90 to 94% in last five years. This was known from Board of Governors ( BoG) Meeting of the held under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sri Asit Tripathy in which the independent directors from different parts of India participated through digital mode.

While complimenting achievements of the Institute over last years, Chief Secretary and Chairman of the BoG directed the institute to work out the ‘way forward’ for scaling research and specialization eco-system in the institute. Sri Tripathy directed that the way forward should contain short term, medium term and long term objectives with broad timelines.

Placing the updates and issues for discussion, Director, IIIT Prof Gopal Nayak said, “The Institute is successfully running the innovative methodologies like Self Learning course, Self development course and Coding competition. A self-learning course is introduced in each semester. The students pick a subject, study on their own and write a personal learning paper. The subject chosen is not restricted to their discipline. This provides the scope for booming of their hidden talents. Similarly, self development course fosters the principles of ‘giving back to the society’.

Prof Ajit Kumar Das, Registrar, IIIT appraised, “IIIT Team of Students occupied Top Rank in Google Online Marketing Challenge of the current year. Thousands of teams consisting over 1,00,000 students from 100 countries  participated in the Challenge. A five member team of IIIT consisting of the students namely Dhairya Mehta , Sambit Mohapatra , Shraddha Padhihari, . Bhabya Mohanty and  Sneha Batabyal topped the rank. Similarly, the institute has set up AR/VR and cloud computing labs. Presently, IIIT is providing consultancy to Government in nine different projects. It has also filed its claim for patent in two subjects during the year 2019-20.

Twenty six notable companies including Microsoft, McKinsey, Visa, Dell, Turtlement and Amazon have visited the IIIT campus during the year 2019-20 for campus recruitment. The pass outs have been offered appointment on an average scale of 4.85 lakhs. The maximum salary offer from the company has been Rs 41 lakhs per year.

Further, Director Prof Nayak tabled that in the context of covid pandemic, the institute has adopted innovative modes of remote learning, online lecture, virtual laboratories, protected valuation system, Google class rooms, remote office and administration and remote campus selection for placements etc. The BoG deliberated over financial management. It was seen that during these years IIIT, Bhubaneswar has grown to a self sustaining institute in terms of its establishment, operation and maintenance costs. Government now provides grant for capital intensive infrastructural development.
