Impact of Cyclone Fani’s landfall begins in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: May 3: Extremely Severe Cyclone Fani made its landfall at Puri with wind speed of 175 Kmph on Friday Morning.

Due to wind speed, tress and hoardings are seen falling on the ground. It is raining heavily with squall in most parts of coastal Odisha. The sea surged to about 1.5 meter height above astronomical tide, as was predicted by IMD.

Indian Naval Ships Sahyadri, Ranvir and Kadmatt with relief material and medical teams have been deployed to commence rescue operation as soon as the cyclone crosses coast.

Odisha Government has shifted over 10 lakh people to temporary shelters. After shifting the people to safe shelters, the people were also provided with free kitchen facility.

28 NDRF teams, 18 ODRAF teams and teams of Odisha Fire Services have been deployed for relief and rescue operation work.

As said, the landfall process will continue till 12 noon. Cyclonic storm Feni is expected to pass through Khurda, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Balasore, Jajpur, Kendrapara and other coastal districts of Odisha.
