Bhubaneswar: November 05: India wins Women’s Hockey Asia Cup 2017 today. The team has broken a 13-year-old-Jinx as Goalkeeper Savita foiled an attempt of China team to ensure 5-4 win against China via Shootout. Earlier, Novjot Kaur scored the lone goal against China and  China brought it to balance converting a penalty corner to goal through Tiantian Luo.
India had failed to qualify for the last World Cup as finished ninth in the 2010 edition and with this win team India have qualified for next year’s World Cup.
It was in 2004 when the Indian women’s team had clinched the Asia Cup trophy by beating Japan 1-0.

Congratulating the team, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik twitted, ‘Asia Cup 2017 is sweeter for Odisha because of huge contribution of 5 Odiya Players in National Team. You make us proud and inspire all.’
