Bhubaneswar, 16/11: The two-day International Conference on ‘Marching Beyond the Libraries: Managerial Skills and Technological Competencies’ inaugurated in KIIT on 16th November, 2018. Inaugurating the conference Prof.(Dr.) Rosan Lal Raina, VC, J. K. Laxmipat University said, library and information professionals have a great role in disseminating information despite technological advancement in this sector. Library and information professionals should assume their responsibilities not as a provider but as partner, he added. Among others Prof. H. K. Mohanty, VC, KIIT Deemed to be University; Prof. B. Ramesh Babu of University of Madras; Dr. M.G. Srikumar, Chief Librarian and information officer, IIM Kozhikode and Dr. Wathmanel Seneviratne, Librarian, The Open University of Sri Lanka joined as guests and addressed the gathering. Prof. A.K Sen, Chairman, CLC, KIIT Deemed to be University gave the welcome address while Dr. Bijayalaxmi Rautaray, Chief Librarian, KIIT proposed vote of thanks. The aim of the conference is to focus on latest emerging technologies on how library and information professionals can explore and use the latest revelations of information technologies for effective and efficient management of their respective learning resource centers. There is a growing demand to manage the increasing flow of information both in and out of the library optimally, effectively and efficiently. In this context, managerial skills and technological competencies play the most significant role. The conference intends to bring together students, LIS scholars, academicians and industry practitioners, library managers and administrators on a single platform to review the latest trends of technological competencies, leadership and managerial skills. More than 500 delegates from 20 states of India and From USA and Sri Lanka have joined the conference. On this Occasion conference souvenir and pre- conference proceeding were released by guests. During the two days conference, Prof.(Dr.) B. Ramesh babu of University of Madras, Prof. N. Laxman Rao, Osmania University, Prof. Partha Sarathi Mukhopadhya, Dr. K. Elavazhagan, IIT Trichy, Dr. Akhtar Parvez, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Dr. Sada Bihari Sahu, AGM, SIDBI, Dr. Sunil Kumar Satapathy, NIT Raipur, Prof. S.K. Sukla, JNU and Prof. Bulu Maharana of Sambalpur university will deliver lectures in various sessions and 76 papers will be presented.
