Bhubaneswar, Jan 15: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has directed officials of Sports Department to prepare a blue print for an international level stadium infrastructure for organizing international sports event in the state.
Chairing a high level meeting at the State secretariat here, Patnaik also asked them to complete 100 mini stadiums across the State by August this year. While State has an international level infrastructure for hockey in the State Capital and Barabati Stadium for cricket, there are no infrastructure for other sports.
At the meeting it was decided to construct international level infrastructure for other sports like football, track & field and other sports event. Besides, Sports Hostels with modern facilities will be constructed in the State. Officials said that construction of mini stadia in different blocks is underway as part of the State Government decision to construct 159 mini stadia in villages and 41 in urban areas.
As many as four other mini stadium will be constructed every year each in five Municipal Corporations –Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Berhampur besides one mini stadium each in 111 NACs and Municipalities in the next three years.
The officials informed the Chief Minister that upgradation of the playgrounds in villages and primary schools are being carried out by the Panchayatiraj department.
The meeting decided to hand over the responsibility to the PR department for the upgradation of the playgrounds of all the government schools while the local organisations will be given the charge as the caretaker for security of the school playgrounds.
