Angul, Sept 10: As per the direction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik yesterday to the District Collector, a probe team constituting Athamallick sub-collector, SDPO, SDMO and Angul RTO was formed to investigate into the Athamallick bus tragedy in which atleast 19 were killed and around 30 others are stated to be critical.
The four-member probe team submitted its report to the Angul collector today which stated that overloading and careless driving were the reasons that caused the accident. They also found that the bus had no fitness certificate.
Besides, the police are on a look out to catch hold of the bus driver who fled from the spot after the accident.
The injured persons were admitted at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Angul District Headquarters Hospital and Athamallick sub divisional hospital.
Around 22 critically injured persons are admitted at the SCB medical college and hospital where five persons have been shifted to the ICU. One person’s condition is stated to be among the five admitted in the ICU.
Notably, in a road mishap near Deulijhari in Angul district on Friday, atleast 19 were killed and around 30 others are stated to be critical when a Boudh to Athamallik bus carrying them fell off a bridge at Puruna Manitri.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed sorrow and had directed the police personnel and district administration yesterday to take quick steps for the treatment of the injured and also announced that the medical treatment would be provided free of cost. He also announced the compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of each deceased.
Reportedly, the driver of the bus carrying around 60-65 persons from Boudh to Athamallik lost control of the vehicle following which the bus fell of the bridge.
