Bhubaneswar: A team from Singapore-based Institute of Technical Education (ITE) & Education Services (ITEES) led by Chief Executive Officer Suresh Natarajan discussed issues to further enhance State’s skilling ecosystem with Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja here on Monday.
In the meeting, focus was laid on the IT-ITeS sector and proposal for semiconductor training in view of growing demand for skilled manpower in the semiconductor and related fields, both in Odisha and across the country, driven by the expanding semiconductor industry and its critical role in powering emerging technologies.
The meeting comes closely after the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Singapore and his interaction with World Skill Centre interns regarding their international exposure for skill enhancement and the recent visit of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi along with Minister, Skill Development & Technical Education Department and Chief Secretary to Singapore.
With the State Government’s strategic focus on fostering industrial growth and positioning the state as a hub for advanced manufacturing, the development of a skilled workforce in this sector has become a top priority.
This aligns with the broader vision of creating a robust ecosystem under the “Skilled in Odisha” initiative, aimed at meeting the talent requirements of high-tech industries.
By investing in specialized training programs and forging industry partnerships, Odisha is poised to become a key player in the semiconductor value chain, contributing to the nation’s self-reliance in this crucial sector.
Principal Secretary, Skill Development & Technical Education Department NBS Rajput, Principal Secretary Electronics & IT Vishal Kumar Dev, Chief Skills Officer and Additional Secretary SDTE Department-cum- COO, World Skill Center Pinaki Patnaik were present during the discussion.
The delegates expressed their satisfaction with the ongoing programmes and emphasized the need for continuous global partnerships to further enhance Odisha’s skilling ecosystem.
CEO ITEES and Chief Skill Officer, Odisha also emphasized on this need and will submit a comprehensive proposal soon for IT-ITeS and semiconductor sector training.
Manipuri, Odissi performances enthral connoisseurs on Day 2 of Konark Festival

Konark: The second day of the 35th Konark Festival 2024 unfolded with a magnificent display of Indian classical dance forms, featuring Manipuri and Odissi performances against the breathtaking backdrop of the Sun Temple.
The evening began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Minister, Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department Rabi Narayan Naik in the presence of General Manager, East Coast Railway Parmeshwar Funkwal and Special Secretary Tourism Shri Balamukunda Bhuyan.
The first performance was presented by Guru Smt. Priti Patel and group from Anjika – Center for Manipuri Dance, Kolkata. Their recital, Nachom Lei, captured the essence of Manipuri dance, weaving legends, nature, and emotions into a visual poetry of devotion, love, and bravery.
The group’s expressive movements and aesthetic choreography enchanted the audience.
The second segment showcased Guru Smt. Aloka Kanungo and her group from Shinjan Nrityalaya, Kolkata, performing Odissi dance recitals on Bande Mataram, Tara Pallavi, and Soorya Labanyam. Combining intricate footwork with graceful movements, the troupe highlighted the lyrical and emotive depth of Odissi. Guru Aloka Kanungo’s expertise, rooted in tradition yet enriched with contemporary sensibilities, left the audience in awe.
Choreographed by Guru Kanungo, the dance recitals had Music by Himansu Swain, Susri Sangeeta Panda and Laxmikanta Palit while the rhythm was set by Guru Dhaneswar Swain.
This celebration of art and heritage continues to draw tourists and art connoisseurs from across the globe.
Throughout the day, the Chandrabhaga Beach hosted the 14th International Sand Art Festival.
The theme for day 2 of the event was Eco-Tourism and Environment. More than 120 artists from Odisha and other Indian states along with artists from eight other countries created spellbinding sand sculptures, transforming the beach into a vibrant tableau of creativity and environmental consciousness.
The evening’s events were graced by prominent dignitaries, including Judge of Supreme Court Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Chief Justice High Court Odisha Justice Chakradhari Saran Singh and Secretary Tourism Balwant Singh among other officials.
