J.P. Nadda demands action against those responsible for Sum hospital fire mishap

Bhubaneswar, Oct 19: Union Health Minister Jagat Prasad Nadda after visiting the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital on Wednesday said that he has found some safety lapses that need to be addressed and has demanded action against those responsible for the massive fire mishap at the hospital that killed 21 people.

He said that an inquiry in the matter is going on and the State government should take proper measures so that the people’s faith is reposed.

He assured that all possible help from the Central government will be extended for the treatment of the injured people in the mishap. He further said that the State government should strictly implement fire safety measures at all hospitals.

Notably, 21 patients have died due to asphyxiation because of the massive fire outbreak at the Sum hospital that happened due to an electric short circuit in the Intensive Care Unit of the Dialysis ward in the first floor of the hospital on Monday.

Over 100 injured patients who sustained injuries in the mishap were shifted to various government and private hospitals after the incident.
