Bhubaneswar, Aug 18: While undergoing treatment at a private hospital, famous actor, director and producer, Govind Tej took his last breath on Thursday morning. He was 88 years old.
Tej started his career as an actor in ‘Kedar Gouri’ Directed by Nitai Palit in 1954 . He had entered into production line under his banner- New Life Production, by producing ‘Krushna Sudama’ in 1970.
Movies like ‘Kaberi’, ‘School Master’, ‘Tunda Baida’ and ‘Gare Sindura Dhare Luha’, made him achieve the Best director award under the Odisha State Film Award. In 1977, he also received Best Actor award under the Odisha State Film Award for his acting in ‘Bandhu Mohanty’.
For his contribution towards the growth and development of Odia Cinema, he was also felicitated with the ‘Jaydev Award’ in 1986, the highest cine award in the State.
Known as one of the most prolific film makers of Odisha, Tej had contributed in many Odia feature films as an actor, director or producer in his over 50 years career.
To pay their last tributes to the great soul of Odia film industry, Music director Prafulla Kar and other eminent personalities reached his house.
