Bhubaneswar, July 23: Suspended Tripura-cadre IPS officer, Joydeep Nayak has been arrested by the Vigilance Officials from Ghaziabad on Saturday. A special team of vigilance has successfully nabbed Nayak. By briefing about the further process, RP Sharma, Director of Vigilance said that, on transit remand, Nayak has being brought to Odisha.
In a case of breaching service rule comprising of his alleged involvement in drawing off Rs 88 lakhs meant for computer education of SC/ST students and self-help groups (SHGs) in Odisha while he was on deputation in the Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) of Odisha police, Nayak 1991 batch IPS officer had been suspended by the Tripura Government on July 6. Before his transfer to the State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development, he had been working as the Director in Fire Service department.
After getting continuous letters from the Odisha vigilance department about the non-presence of the officer despite several notices sent to him, the Tripura government took action against him.
To protect himself from being arrested, Nayak had filed an anticipatory bail application in the High Court on June 27.
It should be taken into consideration that the scandal supposedly had taken place with the agreement of the staff of the department and private players during Nayak’s tenure as the IG of SC & ST Protection Cell, HRPC.
