Sambalpur, Aug 22: The seven-day Kalasa Jatra arrived at Sambalpur today with female workers taking out procession in the city. This campaign was launched by the Biju Mahila Janata Dal on August 20 in order to protest against the constructions in the upstream of the Mahanadi River by Chhattisgarh government. The women activists of the collected water from river Mahanadi and marched in a procession with water-filled pots on their heads through the main roads of the city and then smashed those water pots in front of the posters of Chhattisgarh chief minister, Raman Singh, Union Minister for Water Resources, Uma Bharti and Union minister of state for water resources, Sanjeev Balyan. Later, a protest meeting was also conducted where the party alleged that the Chhattisgarh Government has started construction on the upper catchment of Mahanadi without obtaining the consent of the Odisha Government.
Earlier, on Sunday Kalasa Jatra arrived in Jharsuguda. The Biju Mahila Janata Dal activists, did the same there in front of the posters of posters of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister, Raman Singh, Union Minister for Water Resources, Uma Bharti and Union minister of state for water resources, Sanjeev Balyan. . Along with this they took out a rally from Manmohan school ground to the bus stand. Later, they also burnt the effigies of Singh, Balyan and Bharti.
