Kandhamal firing incident; NCSC issues notices to HRPC ADG, Kandhamal DM and SP

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: On Monday, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) that is investigating Kandhamal firing incident which took the lives of five innocent villagers, sent notices to the Additional Director General (ADG) of Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC), Kandhamal District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) to appear before it physically on October 19.

The Commission on July 31 had recommended for registration of cases against police personnel involved in the firing under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act.

Notably, on July 8 night, five persons including a two old were killed during an anti-Maoist operation by security forces in Kurtamgarh forest near Gumudumaha, while they were returning home from Baliguda in an auto-rickshaw.
