Bhubaneswar, July 23: On leaving for Baliguda on Saturday along with an All India Congress Committee (AICC) delegation and state party leaders, former Union Environment minister, Jairam Ramesh said that this Kandhamal incident which has raised eyebrows of many and has also questioned the efficiency of the ruling party in the state will be raised in the Parliament. He further stated that this is the fourth incident in line where dalit and adivasis have been killed in encounters. The state government must feel embarrassed. He informed about conducting an on-the-spot inquiry to analyze the cause of firing. Lastly he said that the delegation will interact with the relatives and family members of the victims.
A delegation of Congress MLAs, led by Leader of opposition in Odisha Assembly, Narasingh Mishra had visited seven days back to have a talk with the family members of the victims. He pointed out about the null development in the area and also said that the issues regarding the development would be raised in the Odisha Assembly. On Tuesday, Congress members led by Harichandan, AICC Secretary Bhakta Charan Das and former Nabarangpur MP Pradeep Majhi had also gheraoed the Baliguda Police station by staging demonstration. They had sought for High court intervention in this matter and also a High Court monitored judicial probe by a sitting judge into this cross firing incident.
Special Investigation Team (SIT) had submitted the evidence regarding the Kandhamal firing incident in the Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court at Baliguda which included 15 AK-47 rifles seized from SOG jawans, empty cartridges and clothes that the deceased were wearing during the incident.
On the other hand, the materials seized from the incident spot and other places have been sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL), Bhubaneswar for chemical analysis and opinion of ballistic expert.
