CUTTACK, JAN 21: Cuttack district administration has decided not to allow kite flying in Cuttack in busy thoroughfares or on rooftops following the death of a six year old girl due to the stiffened string of a kite on Tuesday.
Now kites can be flown only in less populated open spaces like riverbed on the silver city. The administration has warned of tough action against use of synthetic glass powder coated thread, three days after the death of a child.
“We have decided to come down heavily on the trade and use of plastic manja string used for kite flying and a special squad would be formed soon to confiscate the killer string after sensitising the people about it”, District Collector N C Mishra said.
School and college teachers have been asked to sensitise the students not to fly kites on rooftops or in roads passing through busy localities and marketplaces.
The city had witnessed several similar mishaps earlier. Earlier in the day, a group of school students took out a rally in the city and marched towards the Purighat police station shouting slogans and holding banners in protest against kite flying.
