Bhubaneswar: October 15:
On October 14, 2025, after receiving intelligence about illegal ganja transport in a Mahindra Bolero (OR-10-H-0837) from Dokanput to Pottangi, Koraput Police, led by SI Surendra Kumar Sethi of Padwa Police Station, launched an operation. They arrested a veteran ganja trafficker and four associates, seizing 350 kilograms of ganja and two pistols. This was a major breakthrough in their anti-crime drive.
Sources said a check-post was set up at Mali Sublar Chhak. When the suspects fled toward Arlaput, police gave chase and intercepted the vehicle. Despite one pointing a pistol, the team overpowered all five without casualties.
The arrested accused include Lal Bahadur Darjee (34), Trinath Khara (30), Suresh Bisoi (22), Sanjaya Khara (19), and Jogesh Khara (20).
Prime accused Lal Bahadur Darjee faces over 20 criminal charges, including those under the NDPS Act, POCSO Act, and for extortion. Police have been dispatched to Bihar to trace interstate links.
As part of a crackdown on criminals, Hrudananda Nayak @ Prince (35) was booked under the National Security Act (NSA) for 17 serious cases, including extortion, NDPS violations, and dacoity in Jeypore, Boriguma, and Nabarangpur.
