Colombo, April 2: In its biggest drug haul ever, Sri Lankan Navy have seized 101 kgs of heroin aboard an incoming foreign vessel in the southern seas and arrested one Pakistani and 10 Iranian nationals from the ship. Navy launched the operation in the southern seas on March 30 with the assistance of the country’s Narcotics Bureau and arrested a Pakistani and 10 Iranians on board the foreign vessel which carried the drugs, navy officials said in a statement.
This was a large scale operation run jointly by the Pakistani and Afghan drug dealers, the statement said, adding the officers seized 101 kilograms of heroin being smuggled into the country. The drug dealers were using fishermen to smuggle in the drugs through their fishing boats.
