Cuttack, Nov 9: The launching of the flagship scheme of Government of India Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), a Gram Panchayat launch was organized on 08.11.2016 at Govindapur Panchayat, Kantapara Block, Cuttack District.
Shri Pritish Bharat, General Manager, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, State Level Coordinato Odisha (SLC), Shri G. Swaminathan, Chief LPG Manager, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (MD) and State Nodal Officer, and Shri Deepak Malviya, the Chairman of servants of Peoples Society graced the occasion.
In the beginning of the programme, Shri G. Swaminathan welcomed the chief guest and described elaborately about the scheme introduced by the central goverment. He said that more numbers of women should get the benefit of the scheme. The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana started in Odisha on June 20, 2016 and 30 lakhs BPL household has to be covered by the scheme within 3 years. Now more than 5 lakhs connections have already been given to the beneficiaries of Odisha. Describing the fact, he stated that in Odisha 25 households per 100 were having LPG connections in 2014 which is now fulfilled the target of 62 per 100.
He appealed the gathering by saying that no middle man is involved in the scheme, so beneficiaries should not pay single paisa to anyone as the price has been fixed as Rs 1600.00 towards refill cylinder, pressure regulator, LPG hose, DGCC book and administration charges. And he also confirmed that EMI Option has also been given for purchase of stove and 1st refill which will be recovered from the subsidy amount transferred to the beneficiary when receiving refill cylinder.
He gave an account of the introduction of the scheme for the deprived women of our country and how the Petroleum Minister Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan has given the scheme a greater priority for the benefit of the women of the country. While addressing the beneficiaries, Shri Pritish Bharat, General Manager, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, State Level Co-coordinator, Odisha (SLC) said that 5 lakhs of nwomen in our country dies every year due to the smoke they inhale while cooking through other means which is equivalent to the smoke of hundreds of cigarettes.
Taking the statistics of 2014, he said that the no of beneficiaries have to be increased up to the point we get total success. Every beneficiary should alert her neighbor about the Ujjawala scheme provided by the central government. Describing the facts, he stated that now the scheme is in its way to touch 50% connectivity scale after the Ujjwala scheme has been introduced by the Central government. He said how the Prime Minister of India thought of crores of women are deprived of cooking gas and facing the problem. After discussion with companies and stake holders, finally the scheme came out that has started relieving crores of women out of the trouble they were facing for years. Also he said that if we include more no of beneficiaries in the scheme, it will have positive effects on deforestation as people are cutting tress to use it as fuel. So also it will ultimately make the climate conditioned and balanced as the jungle area will grow more.
The Chief Guest of the launching ceremony, Shri Deepak Malviya, the Chairman of servants of Peoples Society graced the occasion said that PMUY has not only empowered deprived women but also helped in keeping health, wealth and environment in good condition. Describing the Ujjwala Scheme as a relative part of Swachhata Abhiyan, he said that it will help to keep the environment clean and pure which will have good impact on people. He described the scheme as one of the best scheme which gives benefit in all means to all.
More than thousands of people were gathered in the ceremony where around 600 LPG connections has been released during the launching programme.
