Bhubaneswar, Nov 16: Today Odisha CM, Naveen Patnaik lettered to PM, Narendra Modi urgently requesting him to pass a directive to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for reviewing its decision of not giving the permission to District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) to accept demonetized notes as this ban of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currencies as legal tender has posed trouble to the farmers of the state.

Around 44 lakh farmer families availing the agricultural loans have got into trouble due to this ban on the DBBBs by the RBI. Along with this paddy procurement will also be affected due to this ban. The letter further stated that the DCCS plays a vital role in Odisha as it has the work of distributing crops to the extension of 65 per cent through their affiliated Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS). They also cater to the requirements of these 44 lakh farmer families under the Kisan Credit Card Scheme. Hence, sudden withdrawal of these facilities laid under the scheme meant for all the banks in the country will adversely affect the farmers as it is the time of agricultural operation now.

Lastly the letter read that since the DCCBs com under the license of the RBI and constitute a part of the banking sector, it is obviously interpreted that DCCBs have the authority to enact the said scheme.
