Life sentence for tribal man

Baripada, March 4: A court here has handed down life imprisonment to a 35-year-old tribal man who had surrendered before the police with the severed arm of his uncle after killing him in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

District Session Court, Mayurbhanj, Pramod Kumar Jena, convicted Nabakishore Nayak (35) of Halapur village under Karanjia police station jurisdiction for killing his 60-year-old uncle Kunu Nayak on April 27, 2011.

Nabakishore confessed in the court that he was suspecting that his uncle had illicit relationship with his own widow daughter-in-law. He cut Kunu Nayak into several pieces by using an axe. He also surrendered at the police outpost with the axe he used in the killing and a chopped hand of the deceased.

The court convicted Nabakishore under section 302 of IPC for which he was sentenced to life imprisonment besides being slapped with a penalty of Rs 10,000.

The court recorded witness of 20 persons before announcing the judgement.
