After LoP, now Odisha CM directs removal of red beacons atop VVIP vehicles in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Apr 20: Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik yesterday gave immediate instructions to remove all the red beacon lights from vehicles of VVIPs in the state. The CM issued this directive in accordance to the Union Cabinet’s decision to ban the use of red beacons placed on the vehicles of all dignitaries and government officials from May 1.

Apart from any emergency situation, the blue beacons will be placed on vehicles of fire service, police, army and ambulances for passing through traffic. The Union Cabinet’s decision of ban that had been decided under the chairmanship of PM Modi will also be applicable on the vice-president, Union ministers, chief ministers, State Cabinet ministers, bureaucrats and judges of the High Court and Supreme Court.
Notably, UP CM and Punjab CM, Yogi Adityanath and Amarinder Singh respectively had decided to ban the use of red beacons on their vehicles. Last month, Narsingha Mishra, the leader of opposition had stopped using the red beacon on his vehicle. The LoP also the representative of Bolangir Assemble Constituency had also informed the government to not to provide him with police security during tours and thus requested for the withdrawal of security.
