“MAADHYAM” solves 433 cases through counseling in 1 year 9 months

Bhubaneswar, Aug 11:  The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police had formed Women Support Centres (MAADHYAM) in association with the Institute for Social Development (ISD) and Oxfam, India on September 3, 2014, comprising of trained and professional counselors, with an aim to assist those women who are subject to violence in different forms and can approach the police whenever there is a need to redress their grievances.

Since its formation in 2014, around 1,096 cases have been reported at “MAADHYAM” and out of 763 cases registered, 433 cases have been solved through counseling. 

676 cases related to domestic violence, 39 cases of adultery, 18 cases of false  promises of  marriage,  five cases of stalking, one case of harassment at work  place and 20 cases related to other offences against women have been registered so far.

As per a Commissionerate Police statement, “MAADHYAM” has also provided legal assistance to 48 survivors, medical assistance to 10 survivors and shelter to 18 survivors at short stay homes.

Counseling and other assistance is also available for women who are in distress and can approach Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to avail the assistance.
