Bhubaneswar, Nov 14: As the recently concluded tripartite meet could not produce any results regarding the ongoing Mahanadi issue, the Odisha ruling BJD government has decided to get into legal course.

It’s stated that the state water resources department has made a decision to file a legal case at the Apex court in Nov last week after consulting senior lawyers. BJD Spokesperson confirmed the news given out by the state government. Alongside, the government is also scheduled to file a case at the National Green Tribunal as these projects would adversely affect the environment. However, briefing media, Chhattisgarh Water Resources Minister, Brij Mohan Agrawal said allegedly blamed the Odisha government for taking unnecessary political footage on this issue for which it is trying to provoke the people of the state. Taking a swipe at the Centre, senior BJP leader Bijay Mohapatra questioned the Water Resources ministry for not forming an expert committee for the same. He further added that Odisha government should place solid arguments in the Supreme Court about the manner in which Odisha would be affected during monsoon and non-monsoon seasons due to the construction of projects by the Chhattisgarh government failing which the state would suffer heavily in future.

In the meantime the National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee is scheduled to conduct a survey on the flow of water in Mahanadi basin as decided at the tripartite meet. Around 34 Hydrology observation sites are already present in Mahanadi basin and also a new Hydrology observation site has been set up at the Kalama barrage on the upstream of Mahanadi in order to keep a record of the volume of water flow, volume of water received during monsoon season, wind speed, temperature.
