Odisha to knock doors of Supreme court if needed
Bhubaneswar, June 5: Though there has been no response from the Chhattisgarh government after Naveen Patnaik’s urge to the former for opening up Kalma barrage gate over the river Mahanadi, the Odisha government is now keen on moving to the supreme court requesting the same.
While on the other hand, the Chhattisgarh government has denied of allegations made by the Odisha government. Chhattisgarh Water Resources Minister Brijmohan Agrawal while taking to the media has said, “the water flow at Kalma is same as earlier and there has been no closure of gates from our side. Allegation made by the Odisha government id completely imaginary”.
BJD spokesperson and minister Surya Narayan Patro while talking to the media has stated that “any water dispute over a river passing through multiple states can be solved in a democratic setup by a central organisation like that Central Water Commission (CWC). But if the problem continues, we would seek the centre’s attention and then would go for the Supreme court if needed.
Similarly, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan while taking to the media has stated that he will discuss the Mahanadi and Kalam gate closure issue with the CWC and the Chhattisgarh government as he do not want the people of Odisha and the farmers to suffer due to water scarcity.
