Bhubaneswar, Oct 24: Noticing the fact no legal conclusion has been decided upon by both the Odisha and Chhattisgarh governments, thus the Odisha Govt has decided to approach the Supreme Court for a friendly settlement between both the states regarding the Mahanadi issue. This approach will be made in order to constitute a tribunal for solving this ongoing issue.
Given the fact that in the past, the State did not respond back to the letters of Chhattisgarh government regarding the construction of several projects on the Mahanadi river, the change in the decision of the government, differing to its statement after the tripartite talk held in New Delhi last month with Chhattisgarh government and Centre, has not taken many by surprise.
It was stated that the ruling government would go till any extent to solve the issue and so it had made an appeal before the National Green Tribunal regarding the environmental impacts of all the projects undertaken by the neighbouring state in the past few years. However, this decision made by the State government to appeal at the SC has not been swallowed in a very friendly manner by the Chhattisgarh government and it’s also not co-operating with Odisha in providing the detailed project report of all the constructions been undertaken.
