Mahanadi Issue: Ruling BJD to set up signature campaign and human chain programme from Hirakud to Paradip as part of protest

Bhubaneswar, Oct 27: As the Odisha government is all-ready and prepared to move to the Supreme Court over the ongoing Mahanadi issue, the ruling BJD now is intensifying its protest movement at political level. It has alleged the Centre that the Central party has not yet responded to Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik’s request letter where it was written to stop all projects which are to be constructed on the upper catchment of the Mahanadi by the Chhattisgarh government.

Outraged the party further went on to say that the Centre is all in support of the Chhattisgarh government in expediting the projects and so as a protest, a signature campaign at Panchayat level would be launched in order to collect signatures from 86 lakh families affected by the projects. The signatures would be sent to the President. Also a human chain would also be formed from Hirakud to Paradip in 15 districts and the date for which would be decided at a meeting held on November 7. The party would also carry out various awareness programmes to save the Mahanadi.
