Bhubaneswar, Sept 25: Yesterday the Odisha CM, Naveen Patnaik said that the Centre has proposed to establish a committee consisting of expertise members in order to look into the issue of ongoing Mahanadi to which the ruling state government gave its rejection as it did not stop construction on the Chhattisgarh River.
It’s stated that two days ago the state government had received a letter from the Union Water Resources Ministry stating to set up an expert committee without instructing Chhattisgarh to stop construction, Naveen Patnaik stated this in the Assembly. He reasoned out the fact that setting up of such panels would not protect the interest of Odisha and it’s baseless to send a representative to the expert team. All this was said by him in the Two-day debate on Mahanadi water issue in the Assembly. The Chief Minister lambasted the previous UPA government and the present NDA regime at the Centre.
On the other hand, both the Congress and BJP reacted sharply to the CM’s statement calling it out as “Unfortunate”.
