Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Friday rued that Odisha has not achieved the level of transparency it should have in the health and education sectors.

“We have not achieved our true potential. In the recently released Health Ranking by NITI Aayog, Odisha has come in at the bottom third among 28 states. Odisha has got only 40.19 out of 100,” he said distributing appointment letters to 85 homeopathy doctors, 239 radiographers and 52 lecturers here.

Majhi said earlier it was widely advertised that Odisha provides world-class health services. But this situation has to be changed, the Chief Minister said while asserting that the State needs to be achieve at least 60 marks in the Health Ranking.

“We have to be among the top ten best service providers in the country,” the Chief Minister advised and exhorted the newly appointed officials to take a resolution to cooperate with the government in this regard.

The Chief Minister said that good health services require infrastructure and trained human resources and the state government is working systematically to solve both these problems.

“This is a special part of the government’s vision,” he said.

Stating that this year’s health budget has increased by 32 per cent compared to the previous year, he said that the lion’s share of it will be spent on infrastructure construction.

Majhi said that medical colleges and hospitals will be established in all the districts of the state in the next five years.

“Along with the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, the state government’s Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana will play a crucial role in providing good health services to the people,” the Chief Minister said and added that the new government has given priority to filling up the vacant posts in the state’s government sector.
