Bhubaneswar, March 18: a majority of Anganwadi centres in State do not have their own buildings.
Women & Child Development Minister Usha Devi, replying to a question said there are total 71,306 anganwadi centres in the State out of which 28,187 centres run in their own buildings.
The government has provided financial assistance of Rs 49,375.75 lakh for construction of houses for 13,556 anganwadi centres under the centrally sponsored programme as per the recommendations of the 13th finance commission between 2011 and 2015, she said and added the construction work of 7,616 building have been completed so far.
At present, construction work is underway for 10,510 anganwadi centres, she added.
While the government has sanctioned funds for construction of new houses for 8,128 anganwadi centres, the construction work has not started.
Besides, 24,481 anganwadi centres do not have their own houses, Usha Devi said.
Out of 3205 anganwadi centres in the Cuttack district, only 685 centres have their own houses.
The minister said, only 522 Anganwadi centres out of 2435 have their houses in Bhadrak district, 391 out of 1840 in Jagatsinghpur, 551 of 2603 centres have houses in Jajpur, 255 out of 2147 centres in Kendrapara, 555 of 2517 centres in Khurda, 364 of 2599 in Puri and 180 out of 1571 centres have their own houses in Subarnapur district.
On the other hand, 1675 Anganwadi centres in Balasore, 1651 in Bargarh, 2530 in Ganjam, 1001 in Keonjhar and 718 in Sundergarh district do not have their own houses, she said in her reply.
