Puri: Today marks the festival of Makar Sankranti. The Makar niti of Trinity Deities will be held in the Srimandir. Of the 12 yatras (Dwadasa yatra) of Lord Jagannath, the Makar Sankranti is one. For this, the Shree Jagannatha Temple Administration (SJTA) will observe special rituals.
After the Mangal arati and Abakasa Niti of the Lords early in the morning, the Pata Paharana (a net like clothing) was done. After that, the Lords were adorned with a ‘Makar Chula’ on their heads. After that Karpura Lagi, Gopalballabha, Sakala Dhupa was done. Following that, Mailam, Mahasnan, Sarbanga Lagi, Nualuga Lagi, Malachula Lagi and ornamentation of the Lords will be done. The Lords will then be adorned in the Makara Chaurasi besa and devotees can take their blessings.
The Uttarayana Gati of Sun begins from today. From today gradually the temperature will rise bringing more heat. Lord Jagannath will adorn the Makara Chaurasi besa during this auspicious time of Uttarayana. In the besa he will adorn the Malachula ornaments. The Malachula were prepared by the Jagannath Ballabh Math while flowers and basil leaves were provided by the Badaodia Math.
Makara Chaula Bhoga called Makaratada was sent from Alam Chandi temple to Puri Srimandir on Monday.
