Malkangiri: The much talked bribery incident, where a tribal Bonda woman had to bribe the gynaecologist at the Malkangiri DHH for a caesarean delivery, has finally come to a closure. The gynaecologist, identified as Nirmal Nayak has returned the sum of Rs 3500 to the woman, which he took as a bribe for the delivery and has also apologised to the victim in the presence of the CDMO, and the kin of the victim. He had returned the money after the MLA and CDMO asked him to do it, said source.
In the meanwhile, he has also been dismissed from his duty and has been put on to the CDMO’s office.
Notably, a case of bribery came to fore at the DHH here after a Bonda woman had to allegedly bribe a doctor to get her delivery done and if she hadn’t given the money, the doctor had threatened to stop her medicines. The doctor identified as Dr Nirmal Kumar Nayak allegedly had demanded Rs 5,000 from Sisha Nayak, the woman’s husband for his wife’s delivery. The woman was brought the hospital upon her complaint to be suffering from severe labour pain. Alhough Sisha Nayak said that he is unable to pay this huge amount, he somehow arranged Rs 2,000 and promised the doctor to pay the remaining amount later. Upon the promise, Dr Nayak conducted a c-section following Nayak’s wife gave birth to two babies.
